It's Not About You
I shared this story with the Easter choir…and I think it’s worth sharing with you.
I went to Pearce Community Center right after second service on April 5th, hoping to catch our “Fifth Sunday Servants” in action. They were just finishing up, and it looked as though they had done a great job.
I asked around: “Has anyone taken any pictures?” I did want to see what had been done by our church family, but my real reason for asking was so that we could send a few photos in to the local newspapers. You know, a little good publicity never hurt anyone…
Well, one of the members I asked that question to had a quick response. He essentially quoted the chorus of the last worship song we had sung before the group left:
“Not to us, but to Your name, be the glory…it’s not for us, it’s all for You.”
OK. I get it. Ouch.
But he’s right. Why do we do things like Fifth Sunday Servants…Easter Praise…Big Day…Town Hall for Hope…and all the other things we do in-between? So Chillicothe Christian Church can get a good name, a good reputation in the community?
NO.
So GOD will get a good name in the community. We’re not doing this for us – we’re doing it for Him. And He will not share His glory with anyone.
Isaiah 42:8 - "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another.”
So, CCC Family, let’s keep serving, giving, sharing, teaching. You’re doing a great job. Really, you are. Just remember who gets the credit.
